Walking - Climbing Meteora
Meteora, literally meaning "suspended in the air", is a formation of immense monolithic pillars and hills-like huge rounded boulders which dominate the local area. It is also associated with one of the largest and most precipitously built complexes of Eastern Orthodox monasteries in Greece. The six monasteries are built on natural conglomerate pillars, at the northwestern edge of the Plain of Thessaly, near the Pineios river and the famous Pindus Mountain range. Climbing Meteora and walking the same old paths the ascetic monks used to follow, will be a breathtaking experience. Don’t forget to pay a visit to two of the most important monasteries of Meteora: Megalo Meteoro and Varlaam.
